Aspudden public bath – part II
I wrote about Aspudden public bath here in Stockholm in an earlier post. In short, the local politicians want to tear it down, most of the people in Aspudden don´t.
A little update on the latest development: Since the 28th of September the bath has been occupied by people living in Aspudden, to guard the building from destruction. The pool is empty – a sad sight – but the bath is very much alive anyway. All kinds of folks from the neighborhood – adults, teenagers, children, parents, elderly – are there all day round. The door is open, the coffee is hot, and people come visit to show their support.
We´ll see what happens, so far the politicians have been quiet.

I do hope the City agrees to keep the Bad (bathhouse) and locate the kindergarten elsewhere.
You’ve done such a wonderful job in rendering it.
Great sketch, wonderful perspective, love the mermaids and the chair! Save the bathhouse!
It looks like such a lovely place for families and friends to spend some time together. Hopefully the town’s stand will make a difference.
Fabulous drawing of the bathhouse (something we do not have in the States!) You have a wonderfully intersting blog – particularly like the House 40 sketch… Deb
And you are certainly doing your bit by producing this evocative image for such a worthy cause!
Good luck to the bathhouse!
What wonderful drawing of a beloved spot. I hope it is saved – it’s a very special place. nancy
Nice picture. You make it look quite inviting. The occupation may work. We have some Catholic churches scheduled for closure in the U.S. that people have been keeping vigil in for over a year. I think they decided one would stay open but in another, the people are told they are out of sync with Rome (I don’t know what happens here – have everyone arrested- like that would look good). If they were going to replace it with something all the people want it would be worth it.
I hope your efforts are successful! It’s such a lovely old building, inside and out. I love the use of your first painting on the paper notice.
Beautiful painting, light and airy…gives just the feeling the bath surely has. I love that you’e paying tribute to it like this too.
Good for you all! Your picture does it all – it displays the uniqueness of the bathhouse and the desolation of its lack of use, all in one image.
Your composition is wonderful (terrific metal step bars!). More importantly, as Dan says so beautifully, “it displays the uniqueness of the bathhouse and the desolation of its lack of use, all in one image.” All my best wishes in your quest to bring the majority view to authority.
Your paintings are always so beautiful! I’ve been a fan of your amazing work for awhile.
