Lilies
Did a tiny painting of a bunch of lilies yesterday. Just to make it as complicated as possible, I decided to paint without drawing first, which is a big challenge to me. Good practice, though, since you really have to concentrate on negative space and whole shapes instead of lines. Plus I deliberately used a Very Big Paintbrush, to avoid getting stuck in details.
12 x 18,5 cm, watercolours on obscure brand of drawing paper in a sketchbook.

Nina; This is gorgeous! You are very talented. Thanks for sharing.

Absolutely awesome!
It’s lovely, and what a challenge to paint without a preliminary drawing. Well done! nancy
Beautiful! I wish I could paint with that loose, fresh style.
Nina, I’ve just migrated your new site to my favorites list. I check in often and comment seldom. A very poor habit. This painting however requires comment. I so appreciate the close perspective and the fact that you let the watercolor do what it wants to do- to me that is the true beauty of the medium. congrats on your boldness of going directly at it with a brush. that’s gutsy and I hope will inspire me to be as strong. thank you. dana
Wow, the great use of color, negative space and perspective make this an outstanding watercolor.
The negative spaces do make the whites stand out! Great!
Congrats on the challenge.
I like the colors, the shape
of the flowers and the imagery
that I see throughout the bouquet.
Cheers
The lilies are gorgeous. I think you surpassed your goals in this picture.
love all of your work! These lilies are beautiful!
Just BEAUTIFUL ! Exactly what I will be learning to do (hopefully)!
This is wonderful! I think you should frame it.
Another gem! I always look for your name in the EDM digest. You never disappoint.
Wow – such a lovely loose painting – really gives the sense of the flower in it’s setting. I think you have given it so much movement that it almost seems to sway in the breeze.
lovely!
it would look fantastic as a really large painting – keeping it simple like this
No line needed. This is a very powerful painting. Love the colors, and blending and bursts. Beautiful!
Oh, how lovely and delicate!
Nina, I love your work! Visiting your blog is always so inspiring.
