Studying girl, and a new function

plugga

I ran some errands in town this afternoon, and took a break in a café at Odengatan, where this girl was studying (”plugga” in Swedish) something very intensely.

I couldn´t help but trying to capture her on paper, it is so rare with people who sit still when you try to draw them!

Some news here on the blog: I have been trying to figure out how to get threaded comments to work, so I can answer the questions I get in the comment section in a neat way, and it seems I´ve solved it! So if you pose questions to me, please don´t forget to check back for an answer! :)

    Hi Nina,

I have enjoyed your blog for some time now. I particularly like this student you have drawn. I am loving your use of shadow and light.

You are brave. I’m always embarrassed to try to draw people that are around me. What if they notice????
That came out great and I love her expression….very deep in thought.

    • Well, then a café like this – big and calm, where people go to take it easy for a while – should be perfect for you, Lisa. This girl was sitting across the room from me, with two tables and two sofas in between. She never even looked up. In another corner there was a girl reading a book. She never moved either. I had my back to a wall, so noone could even peak over my shoulder. :)

Just wonderful! Maybe a good place to hang out and sketch would be the college library! Lots of students studying there! Thanks for the idea!

Beautiful colours and you perfectly captured the girl’s intent expression. Great job !

  9. Hi Nina, I wanted to contact you to see if I could use one of your drawings to illustrate a news brief on the Aspudden pool. I edit a swimming pool magazine in Australia, and the idea of squatting to save a pool would be interesting for our readers. thanks Chris
