Life drawing session

still_life_feb10

The life drawing sessions I often go to started again yesterday, after a holiday hiatus. They take place in a little 1930´s cinema theater near where I live, and even though it´s not perfect to sit in a cinema chair to draw (I usually stand up), and the lighting is less than great, it´s never crowded and the atmosphere is always nice.

This is a ten minute pose that I think turned out ok. I used watersoluble pencil and a waterbrush, which worked really well to get a little bit of shading in a short time.

About 24 x 10 cm, watersoluble pencil and waterbrush on cartridge paper.

  1. LUMINOUS, Nina…I’m envious, wish we had figure drawing locally…

I think this is wonderful. You captured her “fullness” so well. Greetings from snowy Germany, nik

I think the results are fabulous! Amazing detail to get in only ten minutes! (Well, for me, I’ve never had a figure drawing class! )

    Hello Nina, :-)

This is a very nice portrait. I like the fact that you made this with watercolors pencils. Is it Caran d’ache? That’s how we call them where I live. I should really try them.

Life drawing is one of the best way to get better at drawing. I’m really due for a class like this! :-)

    • Hi Fanie, no, it´s not Caran d´Ache. They are more like pencils, with pencil lead in them, only water soluble. I have one 2B and one 4B. The brand is Koh-I-Noor “Gioconda”. Great fun to draw with.

Such a nice flow of line and delicacy in your shading. I cannot imagine it, but you’ve given me a new target… accomplishing more and more in 10 minutes or less. Glad to see you here posting again.

I think this came out more than just okay – this is fabulous! The foreshortening is astounding. In 10 minutes?! And she has such character! I think it would make a great painting – Botero, step aside!
