Snow
There is a lot of snow in Stockholm right now. A lot. Some say more than it´s been in the last thirty years. The day before yesterday the underground gave up because of the cold, along with the commuter trains, which of course strikes hard on a city like Stockholm. Some people got angry, others got dressed and started walking.
I didn´t draw this from life, -16° C is below the limit for my fingers. I took a reference photo while walking to a station where they said the underground to town might work. Cold, yes, but it was an incredibly beautiful winter´s day.
17 x 11 cm, Uni pin fine line and watercolours on Fabriano Rosapina paper (sketchbook page).

This is spectacular I love the addition of the red that you put in. What a wonderful job. And, that much snow is always so beautiful. It’s snowing hard here right now – we have about 8 or 9 inches on the ground with a few more to come in the next few days. I love it! nancy
Oh My! -16. I understand why you worked from a photo. Beautiful painting too. I love the colors and the crispness that you caught.
A beautiful rendering! Well done!!
Nice sunny and cold capture…great drift on the auto!
What a lovely sketch! The shadows on the snow, the way the light hits the cars, the trees in the background–all are very well done.
Love your sketch!
I cannot imagine it. You captured the crisp calm..love it. (Feel a bit sorry for the car owners – especially the one buried in snow!!)
New member of everydaymatters and so glad to have discovered your art. Love today’s something cold (or yesterday’s). Crisp, clear and blue.
Snow is so difficult to capture and you’ve done it marvelously! Very nice use of pen and ink and the subtle washes of color, especially the red in the trees and by the car’s wheel are nice touches . I know what you mean about suffering through cold weather-yesterday it didn’t even get to 60 degrees here in San Jose CA. How we suffer.
I like your watercolour – very chilly looking! I’m glad to know that it all turns to mayhem when it snows in Stockholm too!
Nina, this is so so nice! I love the way that you’ve managed to catch that bright blu-ish white light that is often the character of a snowy day. I always enjoy checking out your new posts, with their familiar, enchanting style. And this pretty much sums up the Winter many of us have enjoyed (or endured!). I love it!
Så fint du har fått fram både snömängden och även hur vackert väder vi har haft en tid.
När jag tittar på din akvarell kisar jag nästan automatiskt med ögonen för att skydda mig mot solen
Gorgeous sketch, beautiful blues and shadows!!
Great sketch! Your blue shadows and the sky are just perfect. Nice comp, too.
You have captured that feeling of quiet that comes with a lot of snow, whether in the town or the countryside. A lovely sketch.
Nina I so love your style!
This is lovely, fresh and crisp. The orange of the car lights provides a nice contrast to the cool colours.
God!! I love the shadows in the snow.. You have captured that so so well!! Very beautiful!!
I love it! The lighting and mood is beautiful!
Beautiful! I can just feel the cold, sunny day.
Hi Nina. Another exquisite drawing! The trees, snow shadows, sky — the colors sing!
We have had a lot of snow here in Brewster, NY as well. Two storms last week with power out and it’s snowing this morning (Mar. 3). Stay warm!
