Rome IV

rome_4

Sometimes the internet is fantastic, because it lets you connect with people you never would have met otherwise. In Rome, I had the opportunity to meet up with Barbara Bacci from the online EDM-group. We spent some time together and went out drawing in the ghetto, where Barbara found us this amazing spot with a lot of  interesting angles and textures. Now and then passers-by stopped and talked for a bit, which is always nice (and always makes me wish I knew some more languages). We drew until it started getting dark. It is going to take some time before I can do that again – Stockholm is still full of snow…

Check out Barbara´s sketch of the same subject here, and please don´t miss all her fantastic animal drawings!

Thank you Barbara for a great time, it was worth a million to meet you! : )

17 x 20 cm, Lamy Safari with Noodler´s Lexington grey ink and watercolours on Fabriano Rosapina paper (sketchbook page).

  1. Wow, what incredibly, rich light Nina! I love the juxtaposition of the ancient buildings and that satellite disk, too.

And lucky you, getting to meet and sketch with Barbara! I envy you BOTH.

Love it! The satellite dish, the flowers, the roof tiles, the colors, the bricks…. all the subtle details make this a nothing less than excellent sketch.

This is what I picture as a perfect use of watercolor: the richness and overlays of color. Really nice.

Outstanding … I’ve really enjoyed your series of posts from Rome. I’ll be there in just a couple months, and seeing your sketches has made me very eager to get back there and start drawing! But this sketch in particular is just so well done, I could study it for hours. Thanks for sharing.

The roof tiles are perfect! Much more interesting than roof tiles in real life! It’s fun that you met up with Barbara, whose work is also lovely, and so different. Your Rome series has been such a pleasure to follow.

  21. Hi Nina..this work is just spectacular….I just love every part of it…the walls..the appropriate shadings…fine lines..blurred lines..just wonderful…

  22. Cathy says:

This sooo good, you’ve captured the right feeling/colours. Do you draw first with ink?
