Café in the rain

vurma_10

Finally a drawing! My hands and mind have been itching to draw for quite a while. All this painting business lately has severely limited my drawing time, and the sketchbook is screaming for attention. Spending some time in a café with a friend was the perfect pastime this rainy day, and it also gave me the chance to finally sit down and draw somewhere away from home. Oh joy! : )

15 x 18 cm, Lamy Safari with Noodler´s Lexington Grey ink and watercolours on Fabriano Rosapina paper (sketchbook page).

Nina, I found your website through the EDM group. What a great drawing. I like the feeling of wistfulness and also gaiety, through the color palette. Thanks for sharing.

This is wonderful. Love the composition and the colors! I am curious what inspired the vertical box? Was there something in the interior architecture, or do you always think graphically as you sketch?

    • Thank you, Raena! The vertical box is really just the space between the two turquoise pillars standing on either side of the bar. The pillars are of course longer, but I chose to let them end where I wanted the picture ‘frame’ to be. I wanted the tops of the bottles to fit into the drawing, so I let them stick up a bit longer. Nothing I planned, just a little ‘design problem’ that I tried to solve along the way. : )

  11. Great to see the final drawing! You have really captured the mood in the café.
