School house I
In the old days, Norrbyskär had a church and a school, all combined in three buildings at the Southern end of the street at Långgrundet. Together they look almost like a mansion with two wings, and this would be the right (or West) wing.
21 x 19,5 cm, watercolours on Fabriano Artistico 300 gsm rough grain watercolour paper.

This is one of my favorites. The colors are gorgeous, especially the sky, and the gauzy curtain seemingly blowing in the breeze adds freshness to the composition. Wonderful!
Thank you so much, Janene!
This is so beautiful, Nina. The sky is truly wonderful.
Another beautiful painting!
You never disappoint…lovely. What do they use the old school for now? Has the town become something new? What’s the history, briefly?
Joan/Jesse
Thank you! I wrote a very short version of the island´s history here: http://www.ninajohansson.se/2010/07/the-church/, and then some details in following posts too.
The old school and church buildings are now owned by the Swedish Church in Hörnefors (nearest larger community on the mainland), and are used for YMCA youth camps.
Lovely work as always! Continued success!
It’s remarkable to me how you can just keep making these truly beautiful paintings. I love the colors and the composition of this one. nancy
This is one of my favourites too, there is something about the transparent colours and reflections of the sky in the windows of the school houese. Well done.
Thank you Nancy and Cathy. This one started out as more of a sketch, and then I started liking it a lot while I was working on it, so it became part of the exhibition in the end.
My favorite; very nicely done! – PJ
Nina You paints lovely!
