Elsa

elsa2 elsa1

I like drawing people, but have serious problems with portraits – you know, when it´s actually supposed to look like someone. This summer I´ve had the opportunity to practice on a person who doesn´t mind sitting still while being stared at and drawn – meet Elsa, my 14-year-old niece.

We have been spending quite a lot of time together this summer, both in the summer house up north and in our apartment in Stockholm, and she has encouraged me to draw her on several occations. Thanks, Elsa, I´m lucky to have you to make me practice, I´m not so disciplined myself ! : )

Take a look at Elsa´s blog (in Swedish) if you have a minute!

Both drawings:  16 x 19,5 cm, pencil and cheapo Muji gel pens on Fabriano Rosapina printing paper (sketchbook pages).

Elsa is a very pretty girl, and lucky to have such lovely portraits drawn…no wonder she’s happy for you to do them. I have exactly the same problem drawing people.

  2. Beautiful portraits. And how lucky to have such a beautiful model! Thanks for sharing!

I think the portraits are gorgeous! I believe that sometimes it’s not really how similar it looks to the real person that counts, but the expressions that you’ve captured. And I think you’re wonderful at capturing

I love these drawings. Love them. In fact, I’ve been playing with similar style for drawing faces (never posted), and the moment I saw yours I began copying to see what it is you are doing that works so well! These are beautiful pages as well – love the way they are set up. No wonder Elsa doesn’t mind!
