Ballpoint Slussen

I left my black ink line at home today, and decided to try out a four colour ballpoint pen instead. I am not a fan of drawing with ballpoints, but when I tried it along with watercolours in Sagar Fornies workshop during the Urban sketchers symposium in July this year, I knew I had to experiment some more with it at some point.

I am not quite there yet with which colour to choose for the lines, and I got carried away and drew more lines and hatching than I usually do which makes for a somewhat cluttered result, but I had a lot of fun drawing this. Ballpoint is so different from ink pens, in that it gives you a more humble line, and you can tone and shade things in a more subtle way. And I like the effect the coloured line brings to the watercolours.

I like the sketchyness of the mess! Its so much fun working in new challenges. Wish I could have met up with you for the symposium this year.
    Perhaps next year

    Keep it up,

Do you color your pictures with traditional brushes? Or do you use waterbrush pen occasianally?

  3. And it works so well, congrats !

I am currently in Sweden, (Slussen particularly) for a few weeks, and wanted to draw outside.
The places you draw look familiar. (Stupid question) but do you draw while standing, or do you bring your own chair for it?

    • Hi there Tess,
not a stupid question at all. I bring a tiny (and I mean tiny…) folding stool to sit on. I have problems drawing standing up, it is really hard to get support for the book, and use watercolours standing up. I want to sit, and keep my colours on the ground beside me.
